1. It is ok to drive through a red light as long as there is no cross traffic.
2. It is ok to make a left turn at a green light when there is a fire truck with sirens on approaching from your left. Because the fire truck has to stop at its red light.
3. If you are texting and/or talking on the phone while driving, it is ok to drive in two lanes, centering your car on the dashed line. This way you are less likely to accidentally side swipe somebody. Not that it matters since you're not paying attention to the road anyway!
4. Bicycles CAN take on semis.

Comments made to myself.
7/30/09 Earlier this week, I started ordering my books from amazon.com for my class that I will be taking in the fall, Human Rights: Genocide. Needless to say, I'm very excited about this class.
I order the books used, so they have just started staggering in. I get back up to my apartment this afternoon after a quick trip to the mailbox. I'm excited because I have a package that I know is one of these books. Secretly I'm hoping it's the book I ordered on comparative politics, because that is the class I am currently taking and I need a little extra help understanding some of this stuff.
I rip open the package, to find one of the books for my fall class: Human Sorrow. I had previously been intrigued by the title, but not enough to actually do anything about it. I look at the cover, read the back jacket, and then say out loud, to no one but myself (because I'm sure my dogs weren't paying attention to me), "Oh, cool! A book on the Great Famine!"
7/30/09 My good friend from college will start teaching first graders this week. My suggestion to her: Show up dressed as a ninja on the first day of class. They will have nothing but the utmost respect for and possibly a little fear of her for the rest of the school year. And besides, who doesn't want a ninja for a teacher?
